What type of Bathroom exhaust fan is right for your home

Bathroom exhaust fan

The bathroom exhaust fan primarily has two main functions. The leading function most people think of is the most logical “to remove smelly odors from the bathroom”. Although getting rid of this smelly air is important to all of us, this is not the most important function of your bathroom exhaust fan. The most essential function of the bathroom exhaust fan is to eliminate moisture from the bathroom when taking a shower or bath. This same moisture or dampness in the bathroom that is not being removed from the area can cause mold and possibly lead to illness. Let’s not forget that once mold has taken root within an area, it can be very difficult and expensive to remove. To remove mold completely from your bathroom, may require removal of fixtures or even walls.

Now there are many varieties of exhaust fans for bathrooms. Generally they either are installed into the ceiling (the ceiling exhaust fans are the most common selection) or they are formfitting to a bathroom window. These are referred to as a bathroom window exhaust fan specifically. Within this article we are going to concentrate on the common ceiling verities of exhaust fans for bathrooms. When looking to purchase a new bathroom exhaust fan or to install a bathroom exhaust fan replacement, there are a few new features that come preinstalled within the fan that are gaining in popularity.

The bathroom exhaust fan with light has quickly become the go to style, of course after the traditional basic version that consists of the fan itself. These typically come in two types of lighting packages. The first is a full light with fan, these would consist of enough light to illuminate the bathroom and could be used to replace or enhance the current lighting within the bathroom itself. This type of lighting normally uses either a compact fluorescent light bulb or LED (other bulb options may be available) that is contained within the fan housing unit. These are attractive and are a space saving option for smaller bathrooms. The downside to this option is, if they are being utilized for all the lighting within the area, and then let’s say the fan within the unit goes out then you are stuck replacing the lighting fixture and the fan. Another drawback to this style of fan is they are usually not adequate lighting for larger bathrooms without some additional lighting within the room itself.

The second and most common is the bathroom exhaust fan that is equipped with a night time or low level emitting light. The lights within these bathroom exhaust fan units are normally always on, or are placed on a sensor that allows them to illuminate when it’s dark within the room. This is my favorite option and are the most convenient to have, do to they use less power than the full light version and there is no need to turn on additional lights when making that midnight run to the potty. There are many sizes and styles to choose from when it comes to the lighted version of the bathroom exhaust fans. The selections for most people normally come down to what will fit and not be overbearing in the bathroom itself or to match the current bathroom color scheme. Taking everything into account, the lighted bathroom exhaust fans will be a great addition to any bathroom.  They can help modernize the look to an outdated bathroom as well as provide functionality.

One of the newest and best bathroom exhaust fans on the market today, in my opinion, include a Bluetooth feature. Now this can be a stand-alone

feature as with the lighted versions listed above, or these can have lights as well as Bluetooth capabilities. I know that in my own home that listening to music while in the shower or tub is just as important as having hot water! So if your family is like mine, and they carry a phone or iPod into the bathroom for music while they shower, than this option may be a perfect choice for you. There is not much additional set up for these type of exhaust fans either, you just connect it to your device via Bluetooth and you are good to go.
